Double Pane Windows

Changing from single pane to double pane windows can save you 10 to 25 percent per year on energy bills. In Texas, a 2000 sf home with 300 sf of window area is expected to get $266 savings per year.

Low-E and Storm Windows

The best way to improve the energy efficiency of windows is to replace them with ones treated with a low-e, or low-emissivity coating. These windows allow light to pass through easily while preventing heat transfer.

Frames

If window frames are made out of heat conducting material such as aluminum, this introduces further temperature problems in your home or commercial property. This can be fixed by layering the aluminum surfaces with a non-conductive material or by inserting a thermal break inside the window.

Caulking & Weather Stripping

Another problem with windows and doors is that between the frame and wall are small spaces that allow air to move between the building and outside. This is not good if you are trying to keep it a different temperature inside than outside. That’s where caulking and weather stripping come in.
